Per Wikipedia, The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard is an information security standard for organizations that handle branded credit cards from the major card schemes. The PCI Standard is mandated by the card brands and administered by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council. 

The PCI Data Security Standard specifies six groups of requirements, including “Build and Maintain a Secure Network and Systems,” “Protect Cardholder Data” and “Regularly Monitor and Test Networks.” It’s also important to note that if you have an SSL certificate, this not mean you are PCI-compliant.
